The Beatles was initially formed by John Lennon in March 1957 as a skiffle (popular music) group called The Quarrymen. Guitarist and teenage rebel John Lennon got hooked on rock & roll in the mid of 50s and formed a band, the Quarrymen, at his high school. Paul McCartney met Lennon on 6th July 1957 and agreed to join the group a few days later. He was nearly two years Lennon's junior. Lennon and McCartney both played rhythm guitar during that period. George Harrison was invited to watch the group on 6th February 1958.
Harrison joined the Quarrymen as lead guitarist after a rehearsal in March 1958. George Harrison is a friend of McCartney. After original Quarrymen drummer Colin Hanton left the band in 1959, the band had a high delves of drummers. Lack of drummer in the band faced serious problems. Lennon's friend Stuart Sutcliffe joined on bass in January 1960. The Quarrymen finally comprised John Lennon, rhythm guitar- vocal, Paul McCartney, bass guitar- vocal, George Harrison, lead guitar- vocal and Ringo Starr, drums-vocal, who proved them to be the best musicians and most personally compatible individuals within the band. They were the first to introduce innovative concepts in music that gained a mass attention internationally.
